System has received a $50,000 grant
from the Central Virginia Afliate
of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a

unmet breast cancer needs through-

tice afliates will perform clinical
breast exams, mammography techni-
cians at Halifax Re-
gional Hospital will do
the mammograms and
our radiologists will
read them all at no
cost to the individual.”

the ages of 40 and 64, must reside

other advantages to digital mam-
mography. Lost flms, for example,
will no longer be an issue, as digital
copies are automatically archived.
Because they are electronic, digital
mammography images can be easily
retrieved by the patient’s doctor.
Also, should a radiologist wish to
consult a specialist, the image is eas-
ily and quickly transmitted without
loss of information. Tis eliminates
dependence on just one set of origi-
nal flms.
Te current mammography suite
at Halifax Regional Hospital will
house the new equipment. Minor
renovations are required, but there
will be no disruption of service to
patients. If you have any questions
about this new service, call
