Regional Hospital
(HRH) welcomed a new cardiolo-
gist to its medical staf in November.
Gareth M. Titus, MD, joined Habib
Bassil, MD, and Said Iskandar, MD,
at Halifax Heart Center.
Dr. Titus is board-certifed
in internal medicine and board-
eligible in cardiology. He completed
his internal medicine residency at
Howard University Hospital.
Dr. Titus earned his medical degree
from the University of the West
Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad,
and completed his
clinical fellowship
in cardiology at
the University of
Toronto.

and Halifax Regional’s
Center for Cardiovascular
Services,” says Dr. Bassil, who,
in addition to his private
practice at Halifax Heart Center,
serves as medical director of the
center.

According to Dr. Bassil, the aging
population and the prevalence of
heart disease and peripheral arterial
disease in this region
make Dr. Titus and
the skills he brings a
valuable addition to
the medical staf.
“We do have a
lot of heart, arterial
and peripheral artery
disease in our commu-
nity that requires attention,”
he says. “And anytime we can
add to the availability of cardiology
services, it makes us that much more
able to respond to those healthcare
needs.”
Te Center for Cardiovascular
Services, which opened in No-
vember 2005, includes a state-of-
the-art cardiac catheterization lab
and rehabilitation center, as well as
radiology and respiratory therapy
services.
Te cardiac catheterization lab
serves patients needing cardiac and
peripheral vascular services, includ-
ing diagnostic cardiac catheteriza-
tion, pacemaker implants, ICD
implants and other invasive proce-
dures. More than 750 procedures
were performed at the center during
the past fscal year.
