Halifax
Regional Health
System is pleased to announce that
Halifax Urology Associates (HUA),
located in the Physicians Pavilion on
the Halifax Regional Hospital (HRH)
campus, opened on September 1.
W. Joseph Ferguson, MD, has
moved from Halifax Primary Care to
establish HUA. Christi L. Hughart,
DO, will join him on September 26.
Dr. Ferguson, a familiar face in
our community, is board-certifed
in adult and pediatric urology. He
has practiced at HRH since 1984.
He was HRH medical staf president
from 1997–1998 and chairman of
the Halifax Regional Health System
board of directors from 2006–2008.

board-eligible in
urological surgery.
She received her
medical degree
from West Virginia
School of Osteo-
pathic Medicine. She completed her
general surgery residency training
Prostate cancer is the most common
cancer afecting men. In 2007, more
than 223,000 men were diagnosed with
this cancer and there were more than
29,000 prostate cancer-related deaths.
If you are over the age of 50, you are
encouraged to come take advantage of
our
free
prostate screenings. Men eligible
for the free screening should:
ww
not have had a PSA in the past
12 months
ww
be between ages 50 and 75 for Cauca-
sians or 40 and 75 for African Americans
and men with a family history of prostate
cancer
ww
have a life expectancy of at least
10 years
ww
have no history of prostate cancer.
The screenings will be ofered on
Wednesday, September 28, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
at Halifax Urology Associates in the Phy-
sicians Pavilion.
Screenings will include a digital exam
and prostate-specifc antigen (PSA) blood
test. Registration is required, so please
